Readings: Acts 16:11-15 / Jn 15:26 – 16:4a
“Remember.”
That word rings through today’s Gospel like a solemn bell: “Remember what I told you.”
On this Memorial Day, we do just that. We remember.
We remember those who gave their lives for our country, not only to honor them, but to let their sacrifice shape how we live now. Jesus asks the same of us: to remember His words, His life, His death—and most of all, His love.
And when we remember rightly, we don’t just recall facts.
We carry forward a truth that changes us.
Like Lydia in today’s first reading, who opened her home after first opening her heart, we are called to live differently because of what we remember.
The Holy Spirit brings to mind the words of Christ so that we can bear witness to Him in the world.
Memory becomes mission.
And that mission leads us and again to this altar, where the Church never forgets Our Lord’s instruction: “Do this in memory of me.”
As we receive Him today in Holy Communion, let’s remember His love for us, and go and do likewise, always, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
“Recuerden.”
Excellent connection between memory and mission, Father Matthew. Remembering the great apostle of joy and of Rome, too: St. Philip Neri!
